Kirk A. Koepsel, D.P.M., M.B.A., is a board certified podiatric surgeon in foot and ankle surgery by the ABPS. He graduated cum laude with a BS degree from the California State University in Long Beach and as valedictorian from the California College of Podiatric Medicine with BMS and DPM degrees. Dr. Koepsel has developed an expertise in the biomechanics of foot and ankle function and its relationship to foot pain. He is the past President of the Texas Podiatric Medical Association. He practices in Houston, Texas, where he serves as an attending clinical instructor for the Harris County podiatric surgical residency program.
Dr. Koepsel was raised in the small and friendly Southern California beach community of Seal Beach, located just south of Los Angeles. Prior to his podiatric medical education he worked as a clinical laboratory technologist in research and development for the University of California at Irvine Medical Center. While pursuing his undergraduate microbiology degree from the University of California at Long Beach, Dr. Koepsel worked as a clinical research associate in Bogota, Columbia, for the National Institute of Public Health.
Dr. Koepsel graduated valedictorian from the California College of Podiatric Medicine, after which he completed surgical residency training at Hayward Vesper Hospital in Hayward, California. During his final year of surgical training at Kaiser Permenente Hospital in Sacramento, he had the distinction of being appointed chief resident. Following surgical residency he immediately joined Dr. Thomas Garrison in Clear Lake, Texas, creating the current partnership called Bay Area Podiatry Associates. The partnering was based on the common philosophy of both doctors to provide the best foot care available.
Since beginning private practice, Dr. Koepsel has been active in his profession, holding various offices not only in the Harris County Podiatric Medical Society but also in the Texas Podiatric Medical Association where he has served as the president. He is also involved with promotion of his profession and actively pursuing legislative issues concerning managed care that face our community, our state, and our Nation. To help equip and prepare him in this challenge, Dr. Koepsel received an MBA degree in 1999 form the University of Houston Clear Lake.
In November of 1999 Dr. Koepsel founded a company called Podiatry Management Services Inc. This company is dedicated to providing physicians with the tools to practice medicine in the rapidly changing healthcare market place. To accomplish this Dr. Koepsel has launched a public health information site called PodiatryNetwork.com and has developed practice management software, eppointmentsplus, that allows patients to make on-line appointments and allows the doctors the opprotunity to tap into the resources available on the internet and enter the world of electronic medical records. Dr. Koepsel has coined the term "Matrix Integration of Health Care" which he believes will be the next trend in the changes that physician's will face in the volatile health care industry.
Dr. Koepsel is married and is the father of two children, Kevin and Katie. His wife, Linda,has over 20 years of experence in sales and marketing having worked for the Houston Convention Bureau and AstroDome U.S.A. Dr. and Mrs. Koepsel enjoy traveling and are avid scuba divers. They are members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Nassau Bay, Texas
